CBD CONSUMPTION OPTIONS 101
CBD is everywhere nowadays. CBD sparkling water, CBD oil, CBD tinctures, CBD gummies - it’s almost like you can’t escape it. However, with so many options, how do you know your body will absorb it based on that the method you’re consuming it, and how do you know which is the best way to consume it to get the best benefits?
Let us break it down for you see each of its own characteristics and process of absorption in the body.
TOPICALS
One common formula of CBD are topicals that are applied to the skin and absorbed into the bloodstream through the skin. These types of topicals are typically used to massage on to the skin for muscle and joint pain, however, the topicals release slowly over the course of 8 hours. It is important to note that with topicals like creams, CBD does not absorb into the bloodstream.
TINCTURES
Unlike oils, tinctures are made by using a mixture of alcohol of water to extract CBD from the cannabis plant. Tinctures are taken orally and are primarily absorbed through the mucous glands in the mouth, and take about 15 minutes to take effect, at least. Tinctures can be added to food and beverages as well, however, they cannot be vaporized like CBD oil.
EDIBLES & PILLS
Edibles and pills are swallowed and absorbed through the digestive tract. You may find these as gummies, candies, capsules, chocolates, or even cookies. Results usually take up to an hour to take effect. Some pills are even time-released, so they will take a little bit longer. Additionally, digestion can breakdown as much as 50% of the active ingredient.
FLOWER
The lower is the dry cannabis flower that is smoked. It goes through the pulmonary system and is absorbed through the lungs, making it one of the most fact-acting consumption methods, however, the combustion process introduces carcinogens into the bloodstream when inhaled and changes the CBD on a molecular level. In addition, it is important to note that consuming the flower has varying amounts of THC in it, so it is not pure CBD.
NEBULIZING
Breathing and inhaling vaporized CBD is the most effective way to deliver CBD into the body. It is absorbed through the pulmonary system, so it is fast-acting with little to no wait time unlike topicals, tinctures, and edibles. Unlike smoking flower, it does not introduce carcinogens and the temperature can be controlled to not be so hot that it changes the molecular structure of CBD allowing you to reap the full benefits of it bringing your body and mind to the happy level of homeostasis.
